I wanted to represent a multitude of individuals using the nails, and then coloured string to show how we are all interconnected, and that together, we can make something beautiful.

Inspiration: Motivation 1

Finally done!
In my weekend projects post of a week ago I was inspired to do a couple of DIYs. I enjoyed doing them so much that I’m starting a new section in the blog called “Inspiration: Motivation”, where I’ll use photos that inspire me to make things on my own. This will be the first.

I started with the knotted shirt, I originally thought it would be a good idea to use a t-shirt, cut it into strings and knot away but after visiting my local craft store I changed my mind and decided to use wool instead. Even thought I was satisfied with the results, I think I would go back to my original idea. The knotted shirt made out of wool needs more body, a heavier material could’ve worked better.

The studded boots were so much fun to do! I went to Michaels to buy some studs but to my surprise they didn’t have any! I had the option to buy them online but I didn’t want to wait another week to get them. Luckily, my boyfriend found Daddy’s Leather Supply, a local leather supply store. I decided to go on Saturday, the store is in the middle of warehouses and was a little tricky to get to but I’m so glad found it. The owner Lui was so helpful! I told him what I wanted to do and he took his time to explain how and what tools to use. Thanks to him I was able to add the studs to my vintage boots without any problems. I added some studs to my daughter’s chucks too!

I still don’t know how but I want to make two DIY projects out of these photos. The first image is by Fashion Photographer Peter Lindbergh, and the boots I found at Urban Outfitters selling for $348! I certainly can’t afford that so I’m taking the challenge. I’m going thrifting/craft shopping to hopefully find the right materials and experiment. I’ll share the results next Friday. Happy long weekend!

Lace & Rubbish Cake Toppers

One of my dearest friends asked me to be her Maid of Honor last night and I couldn’t be more ecstatic! First of all, because I love her and I feel so honored to have been chosen and secondly, because I’ve never been to a wedding before. I can’t wait to help her make decisions for the big day.

I’ve started to look into my new duties as a Maid of Honor and I stumble upon these super adorable cake toppers. They’re custom made! You just have to specify your characteristics and let Lace & Rubbish do the rest.
